How initiatives like 30 Days Wild can help prevent myopia

We’re delighted that Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is repeating its 30 Days Wild initiative that encourages people to get outdoors and experience nature.

The reason that we’re fans of 30 Days Wild is because the benefits of outdoor play go beyond general health and are documented to slow the progression of myopia in children. There has been a huge rise around the globe in short-sightedness, or myopia, over recent decades and research suggests that lack of natural light seems to a key factor.

Children who spend just 90 minutes a day outdoors are reducing their risk of myopia and getting involved in the 30 Days Wild activities is a great way to do this.

It’s not too late to sign up. Simply visit www.wildlifetrusts.org.uk/30DaysWild and sign up to receive inspirational ideas, stickers and wildflower seeds for your garden. Not only will you see a difference in the garden, but you’ll be helping your vision too.
